The kidney stone model serves as an excellent educational resource for explaining kidney stones (nephrolithiasis) and urinary stones (urolithiasis) to patients. This model features a life-sized, opened right kidney. The renal calices, renal pelvis, and ureter are also opened in the anatomical model, allowing for the identification of stones in these common locations within the kidney:
- Within the renal pyramids
- At the origin of the upper calix group
- In the renal cortex
- In the connecting tubule of the lower calix group, leading to congestion of the minor calices (partially closed, partially opened) in the kidney and ureter
The base of the kidney stone model includes four original color illustrations depicting different types of kidney stones.
