Absorbable - synthetic - monofilament PDS II Suture is a monofilament synthetic absorbable suture that is indicated for use in all types of soft tissue approximation, including use in pediatric cardiovascular tissue where growth is expected to occur, and ophthalmic surgery. PDS II Suture is not indicated in adult cardiovascular tissue, microsurgery and neural tissue. These sutures are particularly useful where the combination of an absorbable suture and extended wound support (up to 6 weeks) is desirable. Typical areas of use include: • Abdominal wall closure • Intestinal anastomoses • Ligament and tendon repair Tensile strength PDS II suture 3-0 and wider: 2 weeks = 80 % 4 weeks = 70 % 6 weeks = 60 % Tensile strength PDS II suture 4-0 and below: 2 weeks = 60 % 4 weeks = 40 % 6 weeks = 35 % The PDS II-suture is totally absorbed after 182-238 days.
