Designed from the ground up by AlcoSense in the UK, the Excel utilises the award winning chassis of the AlcoSense Pro and Ultra to bring an entry level fuel cell breathalyser with outstanding accuracy and functionality.
Fuel Cell Accuracy
The Excel uses a 64mm² version of exactly the same 200mm² Fuel Cell sensor used in several UK, US & European Police Breathalyzers and our AlcoSense Ultra Many brands claim they feature "Police Sensors" or similar, simply because they use a fuel cell sensor. But not all fuel cells are the same... The Excel’s sensor is identical to the law enforcement version, just smaller, giving the Excel unrivalled accuracy at this price point.
Breath Volume Sensing with Temperature Compensation
The most accurate way to measure breath alcohol is to measure the deep lung air, to get to this air the user must to blow out 1 litre of air before a reading is taken. If the reading is taken too early the breathalyser can give low or inconsistent readings. Most rival products at this price point rely on using a timer to estimate when 1 litre has passed but users blow at different pressures meaning the actual volume when the measurement is taken can vary wildly leading to the sample being taken at the incorrect time and an inaccurate reading being shown to the user.
The AlcoSense Excel senses the volume of breath exhaled during the test and takes a reading when 1 litre of air has been exhaled, ensuring the most accurate and consistent sample is always taken. To improve accuracy even further, readings are fine-tuned according to temperature – so whether we’re in a heat wave or the biggest snowfall for 30 years the Excel will compensate to ensure the best accuracy possible.
Eliminating Under-Reading
Every breathalyzer has an accuracy tolerance of +/- X.XX of the reading – the smaller the number the more accurate the breathalyzer claims to be but this means that the reading could be higher or lower than the true reading by this amount. The AlcoSense Excel has some clever software to stop under-reading – i.e. instead of having a tolerance of +/-0.10‰BAC, the AlcoSense Excel’s tolerance is +0.15‰BAC, -0.00‰BAC. This means the Excel will read a little on the safe side, not too low and more than twice as accurate as the award-winning AlcoSense Elite.
Any Limit in the World – Literally
Using the simple menu system the AlcoSense Excel can be set to any limit, anywhere in the world. You can adjust the units of measure between mg/L (breath alcohol) and ‰BAC (blood alcohol) readings, the drink drive limit and blood breath ratio. If you’re travelling abroad all you need to do is set the three parameters according to the table in the user manual. Ideal for cross border or even cross continent travel.
If you’re looking for something even easier, consider the AlcoSense Pro and Ultra which come with a pre-loaded database of over 40 limits around the world. Just choose your country in the menu and at the click of a button it will set every up for you according to the local legislation.
Award Winning Design
We are proud to announce that the AlcoSense Excel has won 2018 German Design Award. It has won the 'Medical, Rehabilition and Health' category award for Excellent Design.
Detailed, Easy to Understand Results
AlcoSense Excel features a full colour 1.8 inch (48mm) TFT screen which gives clear and detailed readings of your alcohol level in your choice of breath (mg/L) or blood (‰BAC) readings. If you’re close to or over your chosen limit the Excel will alert you not to drive.

The Excel stores your last 24 readings in its memory for easy review at a later stage. If you require a larger memory, or with date and time stamp please consider the AlcoSense Pro and Ultra.
Easy to Use Graphical Interface
The Excel’s software is built upon the same easy to use platform as the award winning Pro and Ultra. The Excel gives you prompts and instructions on screen and a simple and easy to use menu system.

The Excel features a backlit blow tube receptor so it’s easy to put a blow tube even in low light. The Excel works with both the “Pro” mouthpieces which feature a one-way valve to eliminate contamination from previous tests for ultimate accuracy, or the “regular” blow tubes used by the AlcoSense Lite and Elite.
Re-Calibration Alert
Any breathalyzer requires re-calibration after a period of use, the AlcoSense Excel has an industry leading calibration period of 12 months from the first time you use it. To improve reliability and user friendliness AlcoSense Excel reminds you to recalibrate after 11 months of use. When calibration expires just post it to us and we will recalibrate it using Police spec Breath Alcohol Simulators and return it to you within 5 working days.
Temperature Alerts
If a breathalyzer is used outside its operating temperatures you can get erroneous readings due to temperature affecting the quality of the reaction inside the sensor. For your safety and protection AlcoSense Excel will alert you if the unit goes outside its operating range (note the operating temperature is the temperature of the unit, not the surrounding air temperature) of 5°C~40°C. This means that, unlike rival brands, the Pro will never let you perform a test when you could get an unreliable result.
Saturation Protection
Unlike rival brands, AlcoSense Excel also protects you from inaccuracy caused by “Sensor Saturation”. Sensor Saturation can affect any breathalyzer, including Police units and is caused when extremely high levels of alcohol are blown directly into the sensor. Normally this happens when a breath test is performed shortly after drinking when alcohol is still present in the mouth, the sensor can be overloaded, known as “saturation”. Readings taken after a saturation event can be unreliable until the sensor recovers. For your safety and protection, rather than allowing potentially unreliable readings to be shown, AlcoSense Excel will enter a protection mode which allows the sensor to recover before allowing further tests.
Quality & Reliability Assured
The AlcoSense Excel is manufactured under ISO13485 conditions, the benchmark in medical device quality systems. After calibration, each unit is then tested 3 times for accuracy before leaving the factory meaning that the Excel is a device you can rely on.
